Hello from Texas

Hi & :welcome Jonah!

Great that you could join us all here! Do you have any ideas on breeds that you might like to start out with again?

Hello, and welcome! What breed of chicken's do you want to get when you do?

Thank you both so much! I'm not picky about breeds, but any egg layers would be nice! I've always loved the way Cochins look, though.

I used to have some Rhode Island Reds hens, they were really nice! I've always been a really big fan of Cochins, their feathers are really pretty to me. I'm not sure if I can find any in my area though, as most of the vendors here sell Rhode Island's or Leghorns.
Definitely check out your state thread. You'll be surprised by how many folks have and sell various breeds :D depending on how important breeding lines are to you there are clubs and groups you can find online that usually have a list of breeders. And you can anyways post on here in the buy trade sell section :)

Hello Jonah.
Welcome to BYC.
What happened to the chickens you had in your adolescence?
I had five pretty little red hens, they were really sweet to me and I loved taking care of them. My stepfather used to threaten that if I didn't do all of the chores around the house, they would end up on the dinner table. I always took his threats seriously and did my best to keep up. When I was around 16 I woke up and found my stepdad cooking... Well, you know. I didn't realize it until I went out to go feed them and they weren't in their coop. I asked him why, and all he told me was, "We don't need them around anymore, they stopped laying eggs as much anyway." :(

Thanks! I'll go check that out. Maybe I'll be able to get some pretty hens again soon!

Do NOT allow your step dad around your new flock under any circumstances!!
