Well, my name is Rae and I live in the sauna that is NW Houston. My furfamily consists of 3 dogs and 8 horses and I have a few equine boarders as well. I don't have any chickens yet - just starting all the research - but my initial thinking is getting them to range in the horse pens to help keep the fly level down. My mom is getting all jazzed about having eggs, so it's looking to be a family venture.

I've got some heat/coop questions, so I'll be heading over to the coop thread to ask those.

Hello from TX also! I live about 30 min south of San Antonio. So I know what you mean by sauna! Granted its not as bad as Houston. If you wanted to keep the fly population down you should try some Muscovy ducks. They are great at keeping down the fly population.

Just to your west here in the Madisonville area. Sauna? Aren't those cooler than 110-115? I am so praying for fall now.

Ha, maybe steam room? I just know that down here, we walk outside and not only are instantly sweaty, but feel like we're breathing water. The horses have been sweaty and misearable, but with them, I can hose them down and use fans. What do you do for overheating chickens? Do they like baths like the other birds do?

I haven't thought about ducks. Don't you need a pond to keep them happy?
