Hi, I live in just south of San Antonio, Texas. I've had pet chickens in the past and wanted to bring another into my home. I decided a couple weeks ago to start some research on what breed I wanted. In the past I had a Barred Rock hen and a Rhode Island Red rooster. They were so much fun to have, that I want my kids to experience the fun of having a pet chicken. So here I am on BYC. I've been looking at this site for the past few days and saw how informative it was and how much help everyone gives each other. If anyone wants to give me a heads up on what breeds are best for an in home pet, I would love to hear it. I did notice that Silkies were the best, but I want everyones personal opinion.

A warm welcome from an imp in Washington

I have a hard time imagining an indoor chicken, but if I was to have one I think it would have to be either a Silkie or tiny like a Serama.

Hi, I'm in Texas too although up in the northern central part. When I registered it said to go to the new members forum, so I did and saw your post. I have silkies and barred and RIR, but by far the silkies are the most calm of those three. AND they're soft!!!
