Hello From Texas!

Do you free range them, chickens often hide their nests and eventually you find several eggs in them. Or could predators and opportunists like skunks, rodents ,snakes be stealing their eggs? Some should be laying by now.

I do free range them a few times a week but they are in the coop a lot, I dont want them out and about when I am not at home. There are too many predators out, neighbors dogs, hawks (they're terrible), etc.

Thank you. I Google chicken questions all the time and am almost always directed to BYC so I'm not new to the site, just new to the whole logging in thing.

Okay, so the birds that I do have will lay (when they decide it is time to start laying) white and brown eggs. I'd like some greens and blues but can't start with chicks so will need to buy laying hens. Where in the Austin area can I get full grown layers these days?
