Hi all,

I am a new member here, however I have read browsed the site quite a few times before!

I am in Perth, Western Australia, and have 5 acres on which I have two horses, two sheep, a dog, a cat and some chickens!

I have:
two roosters, I'm not sure what breed they are
two hyline ex-battery hens (one is getting picked on so she lives in the back yard at the moment)
one silkie hen
one silkie/frizzle hen
one blonde hen, some sort of bantam
two 6 week old leghorns

I am also studying to be a veterinarian.

I am hoping to eventually build a movable coop on the back of a trailer so that I can move the chickens around the property. The coop ideas on here are a great inspiration! As are the brooder ideas, I'm afraid my too little chicks lived in a cardboard box for the first few weeks, then graduated to a larger plastic box when they could get out of that! They are now in a small cage inside the big coop, and are starting to perch. I think they are going to be bigger than most of my hens, they have huge legs, they look like little dinosaurs!

Anyway, looking forward to getting more ideas from this site!

:)

G'day and Welcome to Backyard chickens. I think I would have booted the mean hens out to the backyard, rather than the victim. I don't care for bullies. You might be interested in the BYC Aussie thread - "Australia, six states and one funny little island."

Thanks!

The big coop is outside the backyard, so being inside the yard is nice and comfy for her. She seems very content and happy, and can eat all she likes without being harassed. It's mainly the roosters who pick on her.

Thanks for the thread suggestion, I'll check it out!
