Hello Everyone,
Just joined today cause its starting to get serious... Wifey just gave the go for my chickens:weee :yaSo lets talk about ME. I own a .16 acre postage stamp in suburbia but its pretty quiet nothing like the city and all the neighbors are nice. Wifey and I have 3 children. I'm into clean food and being nice to the Earth. I hope to become as self-sufficient as possible in the coming years (prob relocate to Maine)... anyway... CHICKEN. I plan to get 6 layers to start and see how that go's. Ultimately, I'd like to have another coop for meat birds(the deal with Wifey was we won't mix the meat birds with the layers:rolleyes:). Well, I just LOVE this site cause it is packed with the info I need and lots of friendly peeps....I'll start my preperations ASAP like brooder, coop, supplies, ect. Thank You all in advance for the info(and info I already got while trolling). TTFN

Welcome from New Hampshire. 6 is a nice number to start with. I have 5 layers from last spring and wanting to get 6 more layers and 6 for meat. The eggs are delicious, and I can only imagine how tasty fresh chicken will taste. Good luck
