Hi! Ive been a long time reader of backyard chickens and you have helped me already so many times! Thank you!

I live with my husband and 5 kids on our growing 6 acre farm in Washington. Right now we have 14 chickens, 8 of which are offspring from our original hens and our rooster, Rainier. They are layers. We have 1 turkey (her mate was killed last month and we still are unsure of what the predator was). She is my girl and loves to lay big fat eggs and be pet on her breast. We also have a white rabbit that free ranges with our birds around the property and sleeps in the chicken coop at night to keep him safe!

I look forward to learning even more about chickens (and turkeys!)

Hi, I'm Dhori and new to BYC, but this is my 4th year raising chickens, and rabbits.
I just watched a you tube video on building a chicken coop but don't remember the man's name. He did the video in 2013, but shortened the filming prossess so I don't know how he added the inner chicken door that can raise and lower with a pull string on the outside. I want to make this coop as we have coyotes in our area so ai need to protect my girls but still give them freedom to roam. I will come back latter to include name of builder. Thanks for showing me an easy to build coop without having to pay so much (at Lowe's) to build it by myself.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

It sounds like you have an awesome flock! It's always great when you get new chickens from your own flock! Someday I hope to have a rooster so my hens can all have chicks.
Be sure to check out our turkey area https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/20/turkeys Good luck with your 14 birds and feel free to ask any questions!

I hope you can find that youtube video again! There sure are some helpful videos there! You may also want to check out our coop areas here on BYC https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Best of luck and welcome to our flock!

I would love to see your rabbit free ranging with the birds, that must be adorable. Being white though makes him stand out like a neon sign to predators now. In snow he'd be invisible.
