Have followed BYC for a decade or more but finally decided to join. I'm posting to say hi and share a bit via the questions below..

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Grew up around them on my grandparents farm and in our very rural community. Finally got my own about 10 years ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Down to 2, which is the reason I'm joining so I can ask (and maybe offer) advice. Chicken woes this winter.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Currently Lavender Orpington and an EE, but I've owned a lot of breeds. So far, favs are probably EEs and Black Aussies.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We do eggs, meat, and love both which is why I have chickens. But I'm a birder and wildlife enthusiast so chickens are like my own personal wildlife. Each and every one is such a unique, funny little creature!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm a graphic designer and artist and work for a USA-based artist paint company, so I'm always drawing, painting, etc. My husband and I love to hike, camp, fish, kayak... we live in a gorgeous area that's an outdoor playground and try to take full advantage of it.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live on acreage in the NC mountains. We keep a garden, bees, and have other fluffy butts hanging out on our farm like a very big dog and a fat cat.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

It sounds like you lost several chickens, and I'm sorry. :hugs Do you know what happened or need help with anything?

For illnesses or injuries, we have an Emergency Forum, or for just questions about other things, check the Forums tab to see if you can find which forum fits your question.

Thanks, and yes I know what happened, or close enough. I just posted here about what's going on - any and all advice appreciated!
