Hello, I am currently incubating 10 call duck eggs. It is day 17 and I have two incubators going. One for 2 out of the 10 who are losing too much weight, so I’m keeping them at 75% humidity, and the rest are kept in another at 55% humidity. I candled them today and noticed 3 out of 10 with these black spots? They are alive with healthy veins and they are moving, but are the spots concerning?

Black is a bad color in highly venous environments like developing eggs, think blood clots, necrosis, and bacterial growth. Keep a very close eye on them, if they start to smell ditch them asap! If the black spreads or the egg contents clump up and get sloshy, those are also bad signs. Possibly just artifact but likely some sort of contaminant, venous deterioration or bacterial growth, if you are sure they are alive, continue to monitor but I’d guess they quit and stuff is beginning to break down. I wouldn’t worry too much about humidity, it isn’t going to make or break your hatch.

Oh no!! I will keep an eye on them. One of the eggs had it but it disappeared, I can’t find it. They are all still alive. Luckily two of the eggs that have it are in another incubator.
