Alright I am right now posting on behalf of my Mother and Father (This is my account though) I made this account two years ago when we first looked into this.

We right now are deeply looking into getting three chicks for a backyard chicken coop

We are looking right now at maybe getting Bantams Or some small breed but we are open for introductions to other breeds even

But as of right now we deeply are looking for a nice coop for a fair low price but has enough room for the chickens and space for them to move around but keep them safe from predators such as raccoon's ( We recently got a few removed via traps (they stayed perfectly fine and safe) and had a church friend relocate them to a better wild area)

But Anyways We hope to keep in touch with everyone here and share what we make with our neighborhood

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC!
For coop ideas, check out the BYC Coops section, there are a lot of small coop designs www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coop_Designs pallet coops are also very popular, they can be as big or small as you want, and fancy or not, they are usually made from reclaimed or scrap wood, here is a nice thread on them https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/550804/pallet-chicken-coop-ideas
Here are a couple of links to some nice chicken breed comparison charts you might like http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html and http://www.albc-usa.org/documents/chickenbreedcomparison.pdf when you have narrowed down your choices, don't forget to check the BYC Reviews section for member reviews on the different breeds.
You might also like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
And it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors and for advice on coops and breeds that work well in your area https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/25131/m-i-crooked-letter-crooked-letter-ahh-nevermind-mississippi

The raccoons will be back., and in some states it is illegal to relocate them due to spread of disease, etc.It puts predators into someone else's yard.

If you decided on bantam breeds you could get by with a smaller coop and run.
