I'm Crissie and <----- that guy is my handsome, patient and indulging husband Scott. We live in the rural mountains of Idaho with our five kids and a quickly growing flock!
For years, I had tried to convince Scotty to allow me to get some chickens, but it took my sister (who was visiting from MT) to convince him of the brilliance of my idea. It helps that she brought her small flock over, and we had them as contributing guests for a couple of weeks!
Fast forward to about two weeks ago. Since Scott was now convinced of the brilliance of my idea, he relented and let me order some chicks from My Pet Chicken. That order blossomed into one more order from MPC and one from McMurray and a custom coop fit for my princesses from the best builder in town and THEN it got out of hand... It avalanched into "clearly I'm PRO at ordering chicks, so we should HATCH SOME!!!!!".
I mean, I successfully ordered the eggs and the incubator and the coop, how hard can this BE?!?!?! I'm PRO, remember?
Holy cow, it's hard, folks. With three power outages this past week and running frantically for the generator and 100 degree+ heat and around the clock worrying about my growing little flock in the brooder and the eggs in the bator(s) (yes if you're following, it's now TWO bators because I'm an idiot and didn't correctly count the number of eggs I was ordering from fantastic BYC'ers) - I am exhausted!!!! However, like any mother of a newborn will tell you, I am so in love that I don't even know I'm exhausted.
As the owner of a machine embroidery forum myself, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the WEALTH of information that you so freely give to others who are just starting their journey (like me!). Thank you for your enthusiasm, your encouragement and your willingness to share. This is a fantastic community and I look forward to spending lots of time here.
