Hello all :)

I'm not completely new to chickens, we had them when I was a tween & teen on my family's little hobby farm. We had layers and meat birds. But I haven't had any chickens in my adult life, we're planning on adding chickens next year so I'm in research mode now. I'm looking at doing a mixture for our flock, so I'm hoping to have some different coloured eggs. I recently discovered Chanteclers and there is a breeder not too far away, and as we're in a fairly cold climate we will have some for sure.

We live on a lake in cottage country Ontario, Canada. We bought my Dad's retirement home almost a couple years ago that was built on the same property as the family cottage, so it's been an interesting ride turning a custom built retirement home into a family home.

Looking forward to learning more on this journey.

hello! nice to meet you. In the 80s I spent a year in Ingersoll Ontario at a Bible school. Nice up there!

You definitely should look into getting some Easter Eggers or Ameraucanas then (for egg colors)! The Chanteclers will be great, also maybe Dominiques, Wyandottes, and if you can find some Russian Orloffs, they are so cute! I'm looking forward to meeting your new flock! Welcome to BackYard Chickens! 🐓

Thanks! I'm thinking maybe some Ameraucanas and Olive Eggers. I found a small hatchery that sells a mixture of different coloured hatching eggs/breeds which is very tempting. Black Copper Marans also interest me a lot!
