Hello from the Ozarks

Hello from the Ozarks. My name is Misty. Earlier this year my family of 6 loaded up our 3 dogs and 11 cats into an RV and moved to a gorgeous mountain. We own 90 acres. Since getting here we have acquired 4 more dogs. Oops.

Ive run pretty low on friends lately and was struggling for an outlet. I havent been processing life well. So I figured - stay too busy to notice.

We couldn't help but grab some chickens and a small coop back in Mayish. 6 pullets of varying breeds. Buff Orrington, Easter egger, and such... they grew up pretty quick and we added 10 straight run ducks to the mix. They turned out to be 5 boys and 5 girls. So to avoid trouble we ordered more ladies to even the odds.

Meanwhile my daughter convinced me we need some polish hens so we got some of them. And my favorite - the appenzeller spitzenhauben hens. Their gentlemen friend will be here next spring. He's already pre-ordered.

We had to upgrade the coop and I forked over the big bucks for a good size wooden custom shed and the fencing for a chunk of land as a run.

We then added Boy George - the polish rooster who came free with the two black Spanish turkey I got. (Mark and Liz).

Now I've got 3 ducks and 2 goose eggs set to hatch this week. Over 25 eggs a week coming from the coop. And plans to expand the run and split them up to specific breeds/species. It's sure been a crazy year! I'll have to ask my daughter for the official bird count but it is ever changing.

Oh I forgot the 7 ones in the brooder. 2 cinnamon queens, 2 Easter Eggers, and 3 brahma!

Guess that is where we are at lol.

You must smile every time you look at that adorable chicken!!

Be prepared to increase your "low" supply of friends. Although I wouldn't have believed it when I first joined BYC, it is possible to not only learn more about raising chickens, you can make real friends here! Thanks to BYC, I "know" some people whose faces I will never see, whose voices I will never hear, but whose online companionship I enjoy regularly. Their advice and support have helped me through some tough times, even when those didn't have anything to do with poultry.

Congrats on all your critters and your new life. And, welcome to BYC; best wishes with your hatches, Misty!
Thank you for your kind words. Friends are hard to come by. Especially now, I find very little reason or time to leave my mountain and my nearest neighbor is over half a mile away lol

Hello Misty, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You certainly have your hands full with all those critters. I don't know how you do it.
Hahaha i don't either. I have for kids, ages 17 to 10... my husband said no more so I started on animals. Like i told him, I'm a mom, I need things to need me to take care of them. This is just job security lol
