Hello from the Pacific Northwest!

Nice to see someone else from Seattle raising chickens; we are in Lynnwood and plan to build a coop
this winter and get some "girls" early spring. Are you getting your chicks locally? I am also worried about
the rain blowing in so must get a really extended roof or something to cover it well.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!! :)

Lynn- I got my chicks from a cute little farm in Fall City, Baxter barn. I had them outside in this little run all day today, just took them inside because its like, 50 degrees out. They are 7 weeks... I'm super nervous to put them outside with rain/wind too. I probably should of thought ahead and got them before summer. Hmmm. My little coop has a waterproof roof, and its in the corner of the yard, so I'm hoping it's okay. I'll let you know how it goes. :) I think I will move them outside full time in a week or 2.

thanks to all for the nice welcome;
Alexandra: your babies are wonderful - do you have heated coop for the winter or is it mainly just keep them dry and they can take the cold?
I keep looking at all the breeds and trying to decide on what to get; roommate wants RIR and I think I want the silver laced wyandotte or light Sussex. Just a few for eggs. This should really be quite an experience. Now I'm totally obsessed with checking out all the kinds of coops and runs out there. Even Craigs list has some. Think roommate/boyfriend will just build something this winter - but want him to be aware it has to be nice, roomy and look good too. Nothing tacky for our girls!
Fun!
