(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Relatively new. I got my flock about 9 months ago and have been enjoying being a chicken caretaker
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5
(3) What breeds do you have
Rhode Island Red, Cinnamon Queen, Blue Australorp, Golden Laced Wyandotte, and one that was sold to us as a prairie bluebell, but I don't actually think that's what breed she is (I had too much fun at the farm co-op picking out chicks)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The sounds they make, I love just watching them. I like to think we have a symbiotic relationship--we take the best care of them we can, and they provide us eggs. It feels good.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, reading, crafting, camping, cooking
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my husband in western WA, I am a massage therapist. We daydream of creating a permaculture homestead one of these days. Until then, we are doing what we can and are enjoying caring for our flock.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
When I first thought of getting chickens, a friend pointed me to this site. I am joining several months later because I want to engage more in discussions. Thankful to everyone who offers great advice on here.
