Greetings and salutations! My name is Savy. I have worked on a couple of farms with chickens in the past. I just adopted three Brown Bovan chickens from Grants Family Farms which was an organic farm that went bankrupt. The chickens are being housed in my friend's coop for the time being. I just got a free coop off of Craigs list and was donated some materials to build a run. I was considering using the fencing I have to put up a perimeter of at least 4 ft high surrounding the coop so that I can bring the chickens home, then I would cover the run with chicken wire later. Any advice on that topic would be greatly appreciated! We also have a buckeye tree in the backyard and were a little worried because we've heard the nuts can be toxic.
I found out about this site from my friends Holly and Cory who just got their first chickens last spring. I am pretty well obsessed with homesteading and hope to have a full blown farm of my own some day.
