Hello! I am the happy (but somewhat perplexed) keeper of four hens I purchased from the local feed store in March 2021. I live in a fairly urban area and had been debating getting chickens for a long time, and when my work went 100% remote due to the pandemic I decided to bite the bullet and go for it! And so far it's been pretty fascinating! I'm enjoying hanging out and working outside while they free range. Occasionally they will come up on the deck and keep me company.
Of course as a newbie to keeping chickens, I've been using my Google skills to look up different things I have questions about. I did not know, for example, that chickens pant like dogs in the heat. In retrospect, it makes sense but ya know. It's not the first question that comes to mind! Anywho, I stumbled across this forum while doing my initial research and it keeps popping up whenever I have silly questions so I figured I should just make a profile so I could share my experience and maybe get some advice (ie, my boss hen just started crowing today and again, not a thing I knew hens did and I need to address this before my neighbors file a noise complaint!)
