I've been around chickens a little bit but having my own flock is something else. We acquired our first chicks from chance. Thanks to mess up in shipping from a hatchery we rescued an order of bantom silkies and ended up with 5 silkies to start with. 3 of them turned out the be Roos so they found more suitable accommodations. We live in the city limits so crowing just won't fly. SInce we were going to have chickens I wanted "real" chickens so I purchased two Rhode Island reds hoping to have a couple of good egg layers. Guess what? One was a roo too. Fortunately, I was able to swap him back with the farmer for a hen. We have since added 4 Easter eggers that are now about 5 months old. I'm sure at least 2 of them are roosters. One day I'll move out of town and start a Rooster rescue but for now no Cocks L Do.

:welcome from Virginia. Do you have any other pets or farm animals. Where are you located in Bama? They have a thread here for each state so you might want to check it out. Enjoy those chickens!

Thanks, we live in Birmingham and yes we are dog people. After we recently lost two of our best dogs ever after 15+ years we now have a one year old AussieDoodle (not my idea but she's great) I've taught her to heard the chickens.

We are glad you joined!
This video should help you find your way around the site better as a member, enjoy!

Lots of dog lovers on here. Would love to see a photo of yours. Can't imagine what it would look like.

If you put your state name in the search box, it will come up for you and you can post there. You might have a much better opportunity to place your roos with someone local.
Also you may find other BYCers in your area to share experiences with in person.
