Hi everyone
I joined BYC because I've very much enjoyed the contributions everyone is making here, helpful and passionate community.

We're in the very early process of making a homestead, in fact we're looking for the property yet. We're in the Mayan mountains in Central America, specifically in Belize. We're both from the US. I grew up on a small farm where we kept chickens on the side and raised lamb and pork for sale. I'm eager to get back to my roots, because I've been in an urban setting so long.

One of the challenges our chickens will face is the climate, that it's never cold in the tropics and has a long hot/wet season. The other is the array of predators. So our coop will need to be well ventilated and strong.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

It may sound like a challenge now, but eventually your situation will work out for you. You may need to do supervised free ranging only and when they can't be watched, keep them in a huge run. This is how I have to do it as well. Killing hours are usually early morning early evening. I have found mid day to be the safest from predators.

Welcome aboard!
