Hello from the U.K

Hi,

Thanks all your help so far, I'm sure I will have loads of other questions soon!! :) I'm going to stick with one male and four females or else I'm not going to have space for them! :)

When I had battery hens they began to eat their eggs, why is this and how can I avoid it again?? ( I know my babies won't be laying for a while yet!)

I'm in Lancashire, North West England :)

Xx

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! There is a nice article in the Learning Center on egg eating and dealing with it and preventing it https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/six-tips-on-breaking-your-egg-eater Besides the accidental egg breaking and somebody eating it, boredom often contributes to it, ie, chickens shut in because of the weather, with nothing better to do, somebody will decide to play with an egg, when one is cracked suddenly they discover eggs are good to eat.
