(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Hatched my first clutch of Silkie eggs in April this year and now I think I have a problem, I just want more and more birdos!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
9 at the moment, 2 cockerals and 7 hens
(3) What breeds do you have?
All Silkie and Silkie crosses (Pilkies and Polkies.....are they a thing?!)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
The fact that they all have their own personalities snd are so different! Oh and chicks of course, who doesn't love a chick? We also have our "house cockeral" who is a massive baby and loves to have naps on the sofa with my daughter. He fell out with our other cockeral so spends most of his day either in the house with us or in the garden with the ducks.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have recently started horseriding, and have 30 pets to take care of who take up a lot of my time. Oh and a child who is pretty much one of the animals, and my other half who is pretty much a child
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We moved to a house with some land at the beginning of the year and I have basically set about filling it with animals. Current scores on the doors are 9 chickens, 3 cats, 3 guinea pigs, 3 quails, 3 mice, 2 rabbits, 2 fish, 2 kune kune pigs, 2 ducks and a goat. Trying to find a friend for our goat is proving bloody impossible but I shall continue the hunt.....additions for next year include some Sebastopol geese and some turkeys......and maybe some sheep. I've included photos of some of the rabble!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I've been using BYC as a source of information since the beginning of the year, there doesn't seem to be a good UK equivalent, and my selfish motivation for joining is so someone can confirm the sex of my quails
