Hello BYC community,
I’m a board-certified poultry veterinarian with over 20 years of experience, and I’m excited to contribute here! My journey with poultry started in rural Texas, where I grew up surrounded by birds - from golden pheasants, peacocks, turkeys, doves, and pigeons to silkies, bantams, and buffs - all thanks to my grandfather’s diverse backyard flock. I spent countless hours caring for his birds and cattle, which led me to raise broilers through 4-H and FFA and eventually earn a BS and MS in Poultry Science from Texas A&M. I went on to complete my DVM there and later specialized further with a Master of Avian Medicine (MAM) residency at the University of Georgia.
Over the past 12 years, I’ve worked across the poultry spectrum, from small organic farms to large integrated broiler operations. Until recently, biosecurity restrictions kept me from owning backyard poultry myself, but with a shift in my role, I’m thrilled to reconnect with my roots - and with all of you.
I can see this community is rich with poultry health discussions, and I look forward to sharing expertise, answering questions, and learning alongside you. Thank you, BYC, for fostering such a fantastic space!
