(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I’m not exactly new.. my ex in-laws had a chicken that was beautiful and sweet and docile as a dog. I absolutely loved her and she definitely piqued my interest into raising chickens :)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None! Im trying to figure out why my local ordinance says I can’t have them even though I live in a rural area, with no HOA, and the house I’m buying is eligible for USDA loan.

(3) What breeds do you have? N/A

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

When I can have them, I know I will enjoy the companionship, their personalities, the learning opportunities for my daughter, and of course, the eggs!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We are a 30 year old couple with a 2 year old daughter and a kitty cat. My fiancé works in logistics and I work at a local brewery. We are currently closing on a home in Tipton, IN. We plan to have a big food garden and butterfly garden with focus on regeneration and supporting the local wildlife.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Found through Google while trying to understand the local ordinances, excited to get to know everyone!

Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you with us in this poultry loving community. Check for deed restrictions. We left TN for AL to get a way from so many deed restrictions prohibiting farm animals (except horses) out in the rural areas. When the farmer sold his land as small tracts he put in the deed restrictions to make the land more valuable for some city folks that wanted to live in the country and not be bothered with country sounds. Sad. Wishing you well.
