My original flock of French ones used to free range into the neighbor's pasture (which they loved because my guineas ate all the grasshoppers), across the road, etc. We changed the configuration of our fencing about 3 months ago and that's got them baffled, they could easily fly over the new fencing, but won't for some reason and because they stay, the younger fancy colored ones stay too. They have seemed to figure out that staying near the dogs= safety too, and will all come when called for a treat of white millet....getting them to roost in the chicken house is a different story though...
