Hi!

Completely new by to keeping chickens but we have talked about it for a good while and gone for it.

Yesterday we got our new family members off a breeder who live close by.

My 10 year old got to pick the mum weeks ago and now we have mum and 4 chicks. Hopefully we get hens but the guy will take the cocks back off us no problem.

We chose Pekin bantams as they are obviously a bit smaller and are supposed to be pretty family friendly?? Seems that way so far.

They are our pets. Any future eggs are just a bonus to us!

Just trying to learn as much as I can about them as they are pretty fascinating once you start looking into them aren't they!

I can imagine more arriving over time if possible but I need to learn everything I can 1st so I'll get reading through the forums on here I think

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Pekins are definitely friendly and gentle bantams. We used to raise Buff Pekin bantams and our children made lap pets of them.) If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Pekin bantams.

Howdy! Glad you stopped by. Your 10 year old is going to have lots of fun with your chickens.
