(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?-I'm new and learning how to keep chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?-none but will have some in the spring.

(3) What breeds do you have?-I'm looking at getting a good egg laying breed of chicken.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? from a search.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Astronomy and photography.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. my wife and I live on a small rural, 4 acre piece of land with a small barn. We have 2 house dogs.

Hello Blueox4. Welcome to BYC! There is tons of info here and very good people to help you on your journey as a new chicken owner. :)

I'm glad to hear that you are doing your research before bringing in chickens. They should benefit from your effort.

If you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • For general education, spend some time browsing the Articles link above and possibly the Learning Center. You will find excellent information for both newbies and long-time chicken owners there.
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even if it has been asked 100 times before.

It'll help pass the time and you'll be ready to go once it's time to get those baby chicks!!! :wee

Be sure to check out the coops pages. They are great for getting ideas....
And of course you can always ask questions here because this group is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.
