Hi my name is Gail I am a country girl - have raised horses, poinies,goats.... but never Chickens. I have a friend who ordered 25 ornamental chicks and gave me 6 chicks when they were 2 months old.

Two mottled Houdans, a Golden Camprine, a Grey Dorking, and a Salmon Favorelle and a Partridge Couchin. Unfortunately something..... got 5 of my girls and I only have one lonely chicken left - I will put my question about how to safely get Beyonce some friends in the forum. thanks

Gail

from West Virginia! I don't know what to do, except maybe get a few more chicks and let them work out their pecking order. The more knowledgeable members can better answer that question. Sorry something got 5 of your babies.

Hi Gail! It's great that you want to get companions for your lonely chick. Have you worked out how to keep her and any new chicks safe from the mystery predator? The coop section has ideas about predator proofing. It doesn't have to be fancy, just secure.

It would be best to get chicks that are close in age to Beyonce, that way you will have less trouble putting them together. You might try finding someone on BYC that has young chickens for sale. You can search in the buy-sell-trade section and look for anyone close to you. An easier way might be to find a thread for your state or area (in Where am I? Where are you?). You could post your needs there and maybe someone could direct you to a local breeder.

If this doesn't work, try Craigslist or ask at your local feed store.

Good luck!

There is a thread called "Virginia" that you might want to check out too. LOTS of VA chicken folk there. I'd bet that you could find someone who would be willing to sell you a few - and would be near enough to pick them up.
