Hello from Virginia, also have a question!!

Hey everyone!
I live in Virginia and have chickens, tukeys and ducks. My bantam hens havr beem sitting and hatching babies, however they are pecking their heads and eyes i usallly find them dead. I have saved 3 so far, 2 of them have lost 1 eye and their necks are pretty torn up, ive beem keeping nesporien on the wounds. Does anyone know why they are doing this or how I can stop it?

Hi and welcome to BYC. Is it one of the bantams that is doing this, or all of them? Do you let them brood in the same space? Sorry to hear about your hatching woes and that I do not have an answer for you. However, as you have already received links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Do you have your broodies, in separate places and wired in, so other birds and other broodies don't fight over the chicks etc?. Actually after that, I would rescue any others and put them in a brooder. Some broodies are NOT good ones, and should not be allowed to "set on" eggs at all.
