Welcome! Isn't BYC a great resource? I am in Virginia and don't have chickens yet either. Due to close on a house with a coop already in place and possibly chickens as well in mid-June.
Chickens are a lot of fun! I used to have some and am learning so much more now. When I had them before, I did not have a computer and the internet was young.
One thing I would suggest and will be doing in my own coop, is a poop board under the roost with PDZ on it. Cleaning poop is not fun and this looks like a great way to help manage it!
