Hello! My fiancé and I started a small farm once we graduated college and the first animal(s) we purchased were 16 hens. I am not new to chickens (I had them most of my childhood- Rhode Island reds, barred rocks, and Ameracaunas) but my fiancé is very new to all the goodness of animal husbandry. Since then, we've added three ducks, two sheep, a hog, and several gardens to our farm operations. Our motley crew of fowl consists of many breeds from hatchery/feed store alike- Gold and silver Wyandotte, buff Orpington, Ameraucanas, a pair of sex links, a Cochin, white leghorn, black australorp, a salmon faverolle, Cornish/rock crosses, and a few other unknowns from a hatchery bundle. I wanted a wide mix so that I could experience all the breeds I hadn't before. This is also a first time raising broilers and ducks for us (the ducks are Cayuga).
I wanted to join the BYC community because I'm constantly searching chicken questions on google and invariably always end up on this site for the answer. So it seems like the best place to hang out, learn even more about chickens, and post some questions of my own! Chickens are such fantastic and entertaining creatures. I look forward to my time on the forums
thank you all!
