My name is Frey, I'm 28, and my pronouns are he/him or they/them, if you please~ I'm not that good at introductions, so I'll just follow the template if no-one minds.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens, but not to birds! I was that kid with a weird obsession in grade school, and that obsession was birds (I say 'was' because I like to think I've mellowed out a little since then...hah
) I convinced my parents at about 10 to get a Red-Throated Conure chick--it was a rocky introduction to bird-keeping but she's still healthy and screaming at 18 years old now. I realize chickens are very different from parrots however, which is why I'm here! I got a few books ( "Storey's Guide To Raising Chickens", "Chick Days: Raising Chickens, An Absolute Beginner's Guide", "The Joy of Hobby Farming", and "The Self-Sufficiency Bible") but I've always felt that forums have more comprehensive experience and the most updated information.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero! I'm still in the researching stage.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I don't have any, but I'm most interested in Ameraucanas, Brahmas, and Orpingtons. (In that order too, actually)
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Basic web search, pretty much.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm an artist first and foremost, but I'm also really interested in paleontology (especially interested in theropods/dromaeosaurids), gaming (PC, console and tabletop), hiking/camping, sustainability, wildlife conservation/also anything to do with any animal really, and canine behavior.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family are wonderful but probably wouldn't appreciate me talking about them on the internet, so moving along... I have two dogs: a 6 y/o Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Yoshi and a 5 y/o Miniature Dachshund named Gylfie. I also have a 6 y/o Ball Python named Willow, and I share a Thrianta rabbit named Flame (who will be turning 9 this October) with my parents. The Conure I mentioned earlier has bonded pretty exclusively to my mom, so she's her bird now, but her name is Holly and she's 18.
Anyway, nice to meet all of you! I'll probably just lurk for a long time, since that's kind of how I tend to absorb things, but I thought it'd be polite to introduce myself first.
