HI! After lurking for 2-3 years... time to take a plunge and make an account because I saw a question I can answer on someone's thread!
A little bit about me...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We had chicken growing up, and then got back into it because my son wanted to raise meat birds for our local county fair and we enjoy having the eggs for breakfast. Since then, we've fallen in love with a few breeds and can't decide what to do with them!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Uhh..... well, I know we have a Sebright breeding pair, umm... 5 cochin bantam hens with a mottled roo, and our egg laying yard has... um.. well.. hmm... we have lots! I'm guessing the total number of chicken we have is 50, and we are trying our hand with incubating with my late grandma's 20868 incubator! Yep, one of those wooden cabinets!! We have 20 eggs setting right now, on day 4, and a bantam cochin hen decided to go broody on 12 eggs, so maybe more soon?!? I'm really fighting the urge to add those cute chicks from FFH or TSC to our flock!!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Sebright, Bantam Cochins, Leghorns, BLRW, barnyard mixes for egg laying/eventually breeding for purebred flocks. We do raise cornish rock crosses, and enjoy them too!
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Came across a thread on raising cornish rock crosses!!! Oh, I enjoyed those threads so much and for a few months there, was constantly checking the updates on those threads!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have hobbies?!?!!? With two kids, a farm and a full-time job... not much time for hobbies.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Well, my husband is a British city boy, he and I live out in the country with a boy and a girl, and his mother lives with us. We have horses, rabbits, chickens, two dogs and a few cats. I am an ASL instructor in mid-Michigan, and my husband works in the GR area as IT helpdesk. I will probably end up going back to lurking, but I will probably post every now and then. We are looking to raise BLRW and Sebrights to SOP.
