Was a time when I would have laughed at the prospect of even having a chicken. Now I laugh at the thought of not having them at all. What? No chickens? Are you crazy?

Started out with egg production. Now I find myself watching them. Learning their behaviours - their habits - things that make them tic. Love how they get in the coop and cheer the egg layer on. Yay!! You go girl!! However, in the same breath, they seem to hate the prospect of a chick being born. Had one hen some time back hatch two eggs I let her have. The novice I was allowed the chicks to stay. Big mistake as one was pecked. I did scoop the other up and he/she is in our home and doing fine. We are building an addition that for now will be what I am choosing to call their "summer retreat". Later we hope to use the separate quarters for those we intend to breed. Still could be novice talking. We may find that wont work either. But, I seem to have found a wonderful site and look forward to learning everything I can from all you fine peeps~
