I am new to chickens and BYC. I have been wanting chickens for a while since we recently purchased a 10 acres house/pecan orchard. I have always wanted my own little 'farm' so I thought I would start small with some chickens. I found BYC while researching chicken coop designs. I used 'Miss-tis-coop' from this site and just finished it yesterday. I bought 6 pullocks and 1 leghorn recently and one of my friends who raises chickens is making some more for me. She has about 25 in her incubator. Here is a picture of my chickens (and 2 ducks) and their new coop. I seem to be like the rest of yall because I found a catalog with all kinds of different chickens and I am so excited to get some more. (my husband is trying to talk me into waiting a little bit)

Hi and welcome to BYC and congrats on your new farm - it must be very exciting times ahead for you.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread (just type your state in the search box) will also put you in contact with other BYC members in your area.

The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best
CT

Congrats on your new coop and flock! With 10 acres I'd be a dangerous person with the chick catalog.

Thanks for joining us!
