Hello, I have been lurking in the background for sometime now and finally decided to join up. I don't currently have any chickens, but plan to start my flock next spring. My husband and I just recently bought a farm in Mason County and will be building a house this summer. We hope to be in by November, otherwise we will be living in a motorhome till we finish it. I currently have 7 cats (Miss Kitty 13, Miles 3, Harley 3 Polly 2, Zoey & Gabby 8 months, and Louie 6 months), 3 dogs (Rocky 6, Lelo 7, and Roscoe 3ish), a rabbit (Honey Bunny), and a horse (Jasper). Did I mention that I don't live on the farm yet?
I have mentioned goats and chicks, but husband says to wait till next spring. I'm just here to learn more about chickens. I grew up on a farm and was scared to death of chickens. My father had a mean roster that used to flog us every chance he got. I think he might have just been trying to perch on our arm like he did dad, but we were young and it scared us. I never really thought of chickens as pets, but after reading about all the good experiences here I am willing to try. I also like the idea of growing my own food as much as possible.
