My friends gave me a Rhode Island red pullet and today she started "fainting". She is about 8 weeks old I think and it seemed to happen more frequently when she stepped out into the sun. She would lay there for a minute and then get back up and run around. Is this normal? She doesn't go to sleep she just lays there but will still cheep and even eat while she is down.

! Great to have you with us! Don't know what's up with your chicken but I'm pretty sure it isn't normal. Might want to post in the link below - someone should give you an idea of what you're dealing with. Good luck to you!

:welcome and good luck with your poultry adventure! :frow Just to be clear, is she maybe sunning herself and or dusting?

Actually, that IS very normal behavior. Chickens do not plan ahead, they take advantage of the minute. If a sunny spot is encountered, what better time than this instant to flop down and take advantage of it!

Some of my girls will fan out the wing "on top" after they flop onto their sides, to capture more sun. Then just as quickly (especially on a hot day) they hop up and go on their busy little chicken-y ways.

Well Mis Laayla seems to have made a full recovery. she still flops down in the sun when she feels like it :)I am pretty sure I heard her cluck today instead of the usual cheeping noises she has been making! Happy chick! (Both of us!)
