Slowly Losing it......
Just joined cause I want me some chickens. I'm looking for purely egg laying at this point in time probably only 2-3 hens (for now). Was contemplating on the idea of letting them free range a little bit as well but none of my yard is fenced, it's a big yard with woods on three sides and a road on the fourth. Any suggestions for chickens that lay lots of eggs and would stay fairly close to there tractor?

Glad to have you join! Feel free to make yourself at home! I would suggest Australorps.

Hello! Welcome! I'm from Western PA too! :) As for hard core egg layers I have had luck with leghorns, golden comets and tetra tints. :)

I'm glad you joined our community.

Some of the best egg layers include Red Sex-Links, Black Sex-Links, Leghorns, Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, and Plymouth Rocks.

Welcome to BYC. With woods on three sides, you probably will have a strong, varied predator existence. Everything loves chicken. Even if they stay close to home, predators will still come and visit them for an easy meal. They really need a Ft.Knox of a coop and run to keep them alive.
