Being from NW PA myself, I would recommend any BROWN egg layer, they are more cold hardy, I lost 4 leghorns to the cold this winter even though they were inside an unheated garage. All my dual purpose brown egg layers did fine. I would also recommend wynadottes. Not sure where you are at but if your close to Erie, I know their Tractor Supply gets their chicks from TownLine Hatchery, and they are healthy chicks, no pasty butt, no dehydration, I would highly recommend any chick from TownLine. Also the tsc in Erie seems to know what they are doing, the employees were very helpful and knowledgeable. Unlike the one near where I live.
