Hello BYC, I'm Eli from Wichita, KS. My family and I have been raising chickens for about 10 years. We usually buy chicks, but have tried incubating a few times with very limited success. Our current flock is about 15 chickens, mixed & crossed breeds. Getting our own eggs makes the work worth it for me. I found BYC by just googling stuff about chickens and seeing the forums.

Recently my brother and I have started raising coturnix quail. We hatched our first batch this summer and they are looking great! I also got my mom's green thumb so I love gardening. I'm currently trying to figure out how to grow grain organically and without heavy farm equipment to reduce feed costs for our birds. My parents raise grassfed beef for our family on our 5-acre property, and we have 2 dogs and too many cats.

Hiya, Eli, and welcome to BYC! :frow We're glad you're here!

What's been the issues with your incubating?
Well it was many years ago that I tried incubating chicken eggs, and I think the main issue was using a still air incubator. Also I don't think added humidity was necessary, but I used a wet sponge, which may have drowned some eggs. I've since upgraded to forced air and no added humidity until lockdown, and have seen much better results- with quail.
