New to the forum here, and new to chickening as well. We finally took the plunge and bought chicks during the Easter chick and duckling craze (although ours were not for Easter, it was easy to get a variety in April.
We ended up with 11. I wanted 3 more (silkies), but they never hatched.
We bought all pullets. 2 RIRs, 3 BOs, 3 BAs, 1 WL, 1 SLW, and 1 GLW.
One of our BOs, ironically enough, the one named Muffin, was a surprise boy. Guess he was just shy? hehe Interestingly enough, Muffin is the only chicken that answers to his name with any regularity, so a name change is out. Have you ever heard the Johnny Cash song "My name is Sue?" I hope Muffin has never heard it.
All our chickens are 14 weeks old, friendly and pretty dog gone demanding with their constant need for treats! So far Mr. Muffin is the quietest chicken. No attempts at crowing yet. Perhaps it was the candid discussion my dear husband had with him about the stew pot...seriously, I hope we can keep him. We do have a few close neighbors who might not be agreeable to constant rooster shenanigans.
Here are a few pics...possibly, if I did this the right way...
