Welcome @Birdfriend. I keep corturnix and button quail - they are so easy to look after and their eggs are amazing to eat. You could keep them at home instead of at Grandma's. Chickens and quail need to live apart anyway. Mine have plenty of space to roam and dirt to bathe in. It breaks my heart to see these little birds crowded into wire cages. You could easily keep these at home. The cockerels have the sweetest, quietest crow - in fact it doesn't even sound like a crow - and they don't crow frequently. Come back to me anytime if you need any practical advice.Hi there everyone!
My name's Orla from West Yorkshire, England. I started my account in memory of Dover, a lovely disabled cockerel who sadly passed away in July after six long years. I don't keep poultry at home, sadly (though I'd love to, space and family will not allow it) but 300 miles south is my grandma in Wiltshire, where I help with a 60-strong flock of ducks and chickens (and I'm trying to get some quail included...) I know some basic things about how to care for chickens, and would love to a) help others and b) expand my know-how!
Looking forward to meeting you all,
-Birdfriend (aka Orla)![]()
