Hello all! I'm Cynthia and live in rural Illinois on a small farm with a 1 acre pond. Moved here from Chicago's south side 3 years ago and learned how to be a rural person from neighbors and YouTube. I've got a flock of 21 ducks and geese: 3 Embden geese, 2 white Chinese geese, 2 Pekin ducks, 3 Cayuga ducks, 10 barnyard mix ducks, and 2 wild mallards who joined up on their own about a month ago. I'm bonkers about the whole flock, and especially love the geese, who are amazingly smart and affectionate. My friendliest goose - Biggie - will come inside when invited through the back door. She likes to drink water out of the dog bowl, have a stroll around the kitchen and nibble on the appliances, and tug threads out of the carpet while I play a little piano. She's very possessive and makes my 80 lb. dog leave the vicinity if he's in her sight. It's amazing how well my geese protect the property - nothing escapes their attention. Deliveries, USPS, neighbors, air traffic, roaming cats/raccoons/oppossums/coyotes - they're on it. Glad to be on this forum and looking forward to learning and sharing stories!
