Hello I am new here I have many questions about my 4 month old chickens and roosters

Thank you! I feel bad keeping our mean rooster in a cage while the rest run free during the day. If I let him out would he fight to be put back in by himself at night ?

Do you have a run you can let him stay in during the day? Or some sort of portable run you can set up for him?

No we just have a coop they sleep in and we let them run free in our back yard during the day. They go to my sister and brother in laws house next door. They have a huge field with a couple of cows. They spend most of the day their

You can let him out as long as he is not hurting the other chickens or yourself. And none of the others are hurting him either.

. This is our mean boy in his cage. His favorite hen is in the background. I guess she misses him.

It is up to you. You can let him out, but if he starts to cause trouble to you or that hen back there, I would keep him caged and try to find him a new home.

The reason we put him in last week was that he was fighting with the other roosters and wouldn't leave the hens alone. I didn't want anyone to get hurt. Now my hubby wants to leave him in there to fatten him up to eat him.

I didn't realize how much work they take. I don't mind but my hubby gets mad at how much time I spend with them. I wish they would have all been hens.

Chickens are good therapy for the soul. But a mean rooster is like a mean person , they wear you down. If he is causing disharmony in the flock and giving you grief you are only prolonging the inevitable , it's not his fault, his hormones have taken over but you need to restore harmony to the flock . Good luck. :)
