Nope....hens lay regardless of whether you have a roo or not. Roosters are only needed if you want fertile eggs.

Thank You. Now I am off to the Learning Center to learn about coops. Want to get one built before I have to return back to work. plus I am really bored. I changed the chicks water like ten times today. Oh, is their a way (trick) to keep shavings out of their water dish? I also shoveled 3 feet of snow 10' by 16' to prep for their run.

Raise the water dish up just enough that there beaks can reach without struggle
