(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
March 29, 2011 purchased 10 hens and 2 roosters, I am new although my husband raised some about 30 years ago. At that time they where pretty much his, we got them as adults and I never got attached. These new babies where my idea and I'm lovin them already. late for work the first morning as I had to spend some time with my peeps.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
10 hens, 2 roosters, I have 15 more females and 2 males coming in May

(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Reds, Plymouth Rock - Barred coming in May

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Searched on line and I have really enjoyed the site. Seems to answer any questions I may have

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Cooking, my all time fave hobby, Fishing, camping, gardening and caring for our wonderful fruit trees - Me and hubby love the outdoors and eating well!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married for 30 years to a wonderful supportive man, have 3 grown sons all married and 6 grand children. I have no other pets, other than nature that roams my yard on it's own. Birds, ducks turtles and fish in the lil pond on my property and on occasion, other visiting neighbors dogs and cats. I work in a aggregate mine as a office assistant and scale tech weighing trucks in and out for purchases (I have access to fossilized oyster shell product), The shell screenings will be an asset to me when my peeps get a little older. They will have all the calcium they will need from their momma!!

I am proud as of this August I will be a two year survivor of breast cancer... Went threw all the chemo and radiation treatments, I will be on meds for several years ... BUT, I am a survivor. I am so happy to have this time to enjoy this activity, it is something I can do that is not too, too strenuous for me, because I still have to be careful because of all the lymph nodes I lost in surgery. I am so blessed to be able to still do all the things I love as mentioned in my hobbies. The Lord is watching over me and hope he watches over my peeps as well.

I'm thankful for this site and look forward to getting to know more and see what everyone has to share and offer.
