Hello! Im Sami Slack. I used to spend all of my time on this page when I was 13 ( pretending i was 45 with children living in a beautiful ranch in south dakota( i know i catfished you all) ). I used to have 12 chickens... But it broke my heart one morning to go to see my chickens all dead. A raccoon got to them. Im now 18 and a little scarred from that so im just now getting new chicks. I have 4 little babies. Cosmo, CeCe, Jasper and Micah. Micah is being evil to CeCe and I had to finally separate them. They seem to be doing well. They can still all see eachother through the plastic so I'm really hoping this helps. Im so excited to spend all of my time on here again!!

Been a newbie for a while now. have definitely learned alot by trial and error. Have a 2 yr old border collie who likes to try and get in the coop. So reinforcements are a must. If she cant get in then I know I've done good enough to keep out the 2 raccoons I have lurking 50 yards away from there home. Coops can always be modified and tweaked. and they will adjust to the change. just got to pay attention to there needs and how they respond to your ideas.

My new 4 week chick pin just did today.

Used a old truck canopy and some pallets along with tree branches
They perch here but dont sleep... they prefer the truck canopy

Sorry about the loss of your first flock. Raccoons (and other predators) can take a deadly toll on chickens...here's a link to the predator articles, there is some good information there that will maybe be helpful in keeping your new flock safe:
