Thank you! we are hoping to cross breed for some cold-hearty, pretty, good laying chickens. I know there are breeders out there who prefer the pure lines, but I believe that we have a nice blend to create the "genetic spark". The genetic spark is when you breed outside the captured bloodlines and create the best of both in new genetics. We love having just eggs, but now we are considering breeding and raising which includes splitting off Oreo and getting him his own harem of ladies and breeding for birds that are maximized in their traits. We want friendly, easy-to-handle, good-laying, pretty birds and roosters with a nice, quiet crow like our cochin. Hens that lay colorful eggs, and lots of them. Right now with our modest amount of chickens, we are averaging 12 eggs/week with no supplemental heat/light and it's winter!!! We're excited to try this new approach. Keep watch while we experiment and learn. Feel free to give us advice both for and against if you know what we should avoid. Thanks for the warm welcome!
