In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My husband and I got chickens about 4 years ago on a whim. We bought a premade coop that said it held 6 chickens
, yea... it was only big enough for 1-2 chickens and the run wasn't even big enough for one chicken! So we got rid of those chickens and the coop and decided we would plan it out better in the future.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now I have 18 chicks in the brooder!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I got a whole bunch of breeds this time around because I just couldn't decide! There are so many awesome chickens!
We have:
2 black astrolorps
2 easter Eggers
2 olive eggers
3 cuckoo marans
3 sapphire gems
2 Americaunas
2 ISA browns
1 black sex link
1 buff orpington
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We love the fresh eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Someday I would like a full hobby farm, for now I have a fruit tree orchard and large garden, and now CHICKENS!!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Our family lives in rural central Illinois. I am a nurse and my husband is a project manager. We have a 2 year old son and an infant daughter. We have an outdoor dog Stella and outdoor cat Link. We recently expanded our yard from 2 acres to 5 so it was the perfect time to add chicken babies!
