Hello, my name is HR and I'm a newbie....

I forgot to say, they have crushed oyster/eggshells out all the time as well as layer grit. I did some homework. We cook the shells and crush them and I sneak them in with the oyster shells.

Wow, don't know how you'll break that egg eating thing, I hear other members say that is a tough one, maybe golf balls in their nests might help. Those look like my Rhode Island Reds at the top!! Very pretty group of chickens!!! and that Rooster is very handsome!!! You made out like a bandit!! Great looking flock you adopted there!!

Another quick question while I have some attention, we will have to find a replacement for our elderly Great Dane probably within the year, anyone have a recommendation for a breed that is poultry friendly?

My bassets are poultry friendly and they just like chicken food. just don't get a herding dog. Any dog will need alittle training around chickens my dogs know that the chickens are above them in the pecking order LOL.

Any breed can be poultry friendly. I have pit bulls and an english bulldog that roam with the chickens if I let them.

You can do a search through the messages for past discussions. It is a subject that has come up before! Personally I have a lab/dobie mix, an Australian Shepherd and a pug. The lab/dobie pays the chickens no attention what so ever. The Aussie doesn't either which doesn't seem typical of a herding dog and the pug is the one who delights in chasing them. Go figure. We have G. Shepherds on one side of us. One of our hens goes under the fence and so far they've left her along. The Newfie on the other side is curious about them but has never been loose with them.
