After many hours of research and convincing my wonderful wife I have finally got some chicks! I bought 2 week old red sex links 10-pullets and 1-cockrel (she only wanted four)

On the way home while my wife was driving and I was riding shotgun, to my surprise she wanted to pet one? I'm tickled to death to have them home and ran into some bad luck right off the bat. I already made the brooder and had a heat lamp. So I placed the little fuzz balls down into it and plugged the heat lamp up. And of course, got the you know what shocked out me. The dogs were gracious enough to chew the cord without me knowing. So after a quick trip to walley world i'm back up and running. So far so good and I hope it stays that way.

Any suggestions on time frame to worm and what wormer or feed-medicated?

What a shocking experience!

Don't worry about worming yet, keep them warm... knock down the temp by 5 degrees each week until they are fully feathered, enjoy them.

PS: Check out all electrical cords before plugging them in.
Glad you are still alive to tell us about it.

Ouch! I hate that feeling, and I can imagine yours was much worse with a chewed on cord!

You can start right off with medicated feed. Keep the brooder at about 75-80 degrees and decrease 5 degrees each week. Just watch them, you can tell if they are too cold. I wouldn't worry about worming right now.

Congrats! And it sounds like your wife is going to be addicted real soon!

Glad that you are alright!!!

For future reference if you ever get day old chicks (you KNOW that you will want more

) start the brooder temp at 90 degrees F and lower temp by 5 degrees each week. Your chicks are already 2 wks old so you can start with a lower temp. Start with the medicated feed, now and don't worry about worming them. How about some pictures????

Thanks for the help. I'll see about some pictures as soon as I can figure that out.
